On the 27th March 2010 these two super middleweights are set to square off in California as part of the “Super Six” tournament, which consists of the top 6 super middleweights and aims to find the “best” super middleweight in the some what open division. Those fighters consist of; Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch, Mikkell Kessler, Andre Ward and Jermain Taylor. 4 of which; Abraham, Dirrel, Froch and Ward were undefeated prior to the tournament beginning. Each fighter would take on 3 opponents in a round robin type tournament where points were awarded for victory’s and a bonus point acquired by winning via stoppage.
In the first group stage Froch met Dirrell, which ended up with Froch winning via split decision, although personally I think he won quite convincingly as he was doing all the work and moving forward the whole fight whilst Dirrell looked scared and fought negatively. Abraham secured three points with a 12th round knockout over the American Jermain Taylor. And most surprisingly, well for many people was the Olympic gold Medalist Andre Ward defeating Mikkell Kessler in convincing fashion. The fight ended up being stopped for a cut to Kessler’s eye, but Ward was winning comfortably on points anyway and Kessler looked unlikely to prove a different outcome.
Anyway, back to the prediction on the Abraham vs Dirrell fight. I can’t see Dirrell winning this fight. Abraham has shown he is a class act time and time again, and I can only see him proving this during the super six tournament. I think he has far too much power for the relatively inexperienced, younger Dirrell.
Abraham possesses far to much power and accuracy for Dirrell to handle so my prediction is a Abraham victory via Knock Out. The Abraham Vs Dirrell odds are looking tighter then I imagined, so may well be worth placing a chunky bet on the Abraham victory whilst the odds offered are this good!
